Eastern Electronics History
The company was originally owned and run by Nigel Hunt and his wife Magdeleine from premises in the heart of Suffolk, UK only a stone's throw from nearby Constable Country. Hospital Radio was the first endeavour when Nigel and a few pals started "Radio Enfield" in 1970. Next stop was the "United Biscuits Network" from 1973 - 75 as station engineer working with such seasoned professionals as Adrian Love and Roger Day. ILR beckoned in 1975 and Nigel spent twelve very happy years at "Radio Orwell" in Ipswich (now SGR) latterly as Chief Engineer.
In 1987 Nigel left SGR where he had amassed the vast amount of knowledge and contacts to enable him to start "Eastern Electronics" which is a company that specialises in radio broadcast engineering.
In May 2005 Nigel finally decided to retire (apart from his analogue tape machines) passing the company over to John Griffiths and his wife Kate. John served his apprenticeship with the BBC, and during his 18 years with the corporation was involved in the design and building of many studios large and small. From editing suites right through to one of Radio 2's main continuity suites in Pebble Mill. When the Mill closed in 2001, John left the BBC and installed a number of studios as Solutions 2 Sound. As the new proprietor of Eastern Electronics, John has his own range of experience to add to that of Nigel and will continue to serve the broadcast industry, now operating out of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands.
The company has remained small but very busy and has built many of today's successful radio stations, and is looking forward to building those of tomorrow! The principle of a personal service has remained, and will continue to remain, uppermost in the philosophy of Eastern Electronics.
